What is BAND-IT?
BAND-IT is a sassy, cheeky lil workout designed and choreographed by me, The Family PT aka Gemma. It uses resistance bands to create a full-body strength training workout. Each 45 minute session is chocker block full of high-calorie burning exercises as well as hitting those stability muscles you don't even really know you need to work on until it's too late. Equipment to join in is convenient and inexpensive, you can even borrow equipment for as long as you need.
Music is absolutely EVERYTHING to me! We have KILLER PLAYLISTS! Nothing better to keep us going than some empowering AF tracks. Ever been to a class where you're wishing the time away because you're being zombified by the same damn continuous mix for an hour straight? Who the hell gets excited to go back to that? You will ask for the playlist link, and you will message the group chat to say, "I've got the playlist on in the car, clenching my bum along with the choreo"! Maybe not that specifically, but that has happened...twice.
Always creating new tracks and taking suggestions for tracks from the group as well, I challenge you to get bored!
Who is BAND-IT suitable for?
Exercise newbies, need that little bit of help learning to love exercise? BAND-IT has been that for SO many people already. No BS and absolutely no haters allowed. We're here to support, welcome and pick each other up! BAND-IT can be made easier or harder depending on your fitness level. I would always recommend not wearing a band for your first class if you're someone who is new to exercise. The key to improving your health is consistency, so there will be no "go hard or go home" bollocks in my class. There will be a "challenge yourself, yes, to a level where you're able to come back next week". If someone has an injury or condition that stops them from doing something, I am usually able to set an alternative. Not sure if you'd need alternatives or if you're able to give it a go? I usually say the baseline ability is to be able to sit down and stand up unaided. Your exercise readiness questionnaire (PARQ) is there to keep you safe, and if you were to answer "yes" to any of the questions, I would get in touch just to clarify anyway.
Exercise veterans looking for something different to add to their weekly routine. As I said above, BAND-IT can be made easier or harder. We wear fabric resistance bands throughout the class, the bands that I loan out in class are LIGHT. This means that when you're ready, you can buy your own set and progress to the next level band. You can do this with the rubber bands that we use for upper body exercises and sometimes over the feet, but I always have LIGHT to HEAVY available for each class. Different brands of bands have different tension levels as well so, once you're hooked, I always recommend buying your own set. Crikey, how many times can one person say "bands"!
Busy mums, get those endorphins in a quick 45-minute class, can't get out of parents evening this week? No problem, there's always a live and a recording!
Fierce folks wanting a community, yup, we're basically a cult now. Jokes aside, we absolutely adhere to the no BS rule, we know what we want and we make sure we get it TWICE A WEEK NOW!
The absolute best way to see if something is suitable for you is to give it a go, there's no commitment, so it can't hurt. However, I fully understand nerves get to us when we start something new, so have a peek at the videos on this page.
